| Commission-owned apartments/houses You’ve probably driven by them a dozen times and not thought twice. They look no different than other houses or apartments in the neighborhood. Often, they look even better – well kept, nicely landscaped and clean. They’re in North Park, College Area, University City, Linda Vista – all over the city, in fact. And they’re occupied mostly by families but also by seniors and persons with disabilities. What are they? They’re publicly owned housing developments – attractive rental complexes owned and managed by the San Diego Housing Commission. (A look at the history of Public Housing in the U.S. and San Diego shows why San Diego is a model for this kind of affordable housing.) Click here to visit the Photo Gallery. |
