The Money Project

SDHC Achievement Academy

The Money Project

Designed specifically for young adults ages 15 to 24, The Money Project is one of three core programs offered at the San Diego Housing Commission’s (SDHC) Achievement Academy. The Money Project is a three year program available at no charge to families receiving federal Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) and those living in our public housing properties.

Participants are taught the basics of money management and are also eligible for special savings accounts in which the SDHC matches every dollar saved with three dollars, up to $3,000.

The matched savings may be used for:

• A down payment on a home                             • Purchasing a vehicle or transportation expenses

• Education or vocational training expenses            • Starting a small business

• Sports and artistic participation                          • Health insurance expenses

• Contributions to a long-term investment

To qualify you must:

• Receive housing assistance from the SDHC's Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8)

• Attend an orientation                                       • Open a savings account at a designated bank

• Attend required workshops                               • Be ready to save

*If under 18 years old, participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

For more information about The Money Project or to sign up for orientation, please call Frances Flores at (619) 578-7451.
