Oversight & Management

The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) is governed by the San Diego Housing Authority, which is composed of the eight members of the San Diego City Council. The Housing Authority has final authority over the agency’s budget and major policy changes. Housing Authority approval is required for contracts exceeding $500,000 for maintenance and improvements to agency owned or managed properties, and developments or loans exceeding $250,000.

The Housing Authority is assisted by a Board of Commissioners, a seven-member advisory body appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. The board reviews proposed expenditures and policy changes and some of which are forwarded to the Housing Authority for final action.

SDHC is managed by a president and chief executive officer, who also serves as the Housing Authority’s executive director. Day-to-day operations are managed by an executive vice president, who is also the chief operating officer and reports to the CEO.
