  <span>Project Homeless Connect – A Success!</span><br>941 homeless San Diegans received assistance ranging from clothing to on-site health care during San Diego’s 6th Annual Project Homeless Connect. Over 300 volunteers including 65 non-profit service providers, businesses and local government agencies participated. View news release.   <span> Second Graduating Class - Achievement Academy</span><br>Twenty future small business owners graduated from the Business Initiatives & Strategies Training Program of the Achievement Academy of the San Diego Housing Commission. Participants completed eleven weeks of small business education and developed business plans. 12.15.11   <span>City of San Diego's Emergency Winter Shelter Opens</span><br>Four days before Thanksgiving, the City of San Diego's emergency winter shelter for adults opened on Monday, November 21. The Housing Commission adminsters the contract for the city with day to day operations handled by the Alpha Project. View news release.   <span>Campaign To End Homelessness</span><br>There is progress to report on the Campaign to End Homelessness on the streets of San Diego.The San Diego Housing Commission allocated 125 housing vouchers to provide homes for the most vulnerable people living on the streets.Community partnerships were key.  UNDERSTANDING THE VALUE OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING 

We recently commissioned a study to evaluate the costs of affordable rental housing developments with added features such as community rooms, computer work stations and solar panels.

The report showed that while these unique features cost more to build they add significant value to our neighborhoods and provide utility cost savings to low-income families.
